Elena

My first babyshower & maternity shoot was in Wellington over the weekend! Elena is a friend from what feels like another lifetime. Thanks to the great and wonderful force of the internet, Elena found me. And, lucky for me, found that she was fond of my photographing style. It was exciting take my first set of maternity photos and to see an old friend.

I saw another preganant friend recently and realized how increasingly fascinated I'm becoming with the pro-creation process as a whole. (Personally, I'm no where near this phase of my life, but I do look forward to it.) I have respect for the strength of women, to build and carry another life. Maybe I just wasn't expecting to be so moved by movement in her belly! Elena was a great mama-to-be-model; she was so open to whatever ideas I had & I'm super pleased with the new pics!

ROY G BIV

I've decided it's time to make more COMPLETE series of photographs. And here's the beginning of my first idea. With a little paint and an open minded little brother I present to you my first color! The plan is to eventually create some type of rainbow with different people and colors.

Busey

While some people watch reality tv & infomercials, my late night crutch that keeps me from sleep is other photographer's portfolios. Tonight I found a really neat one, Dave Hill: http://www.davehillphoto.com/
I liked his photos SO much that I attempted to recreate his editing style on one of my own shots. I chose this photo I took for a skating magazine last year of Mike Busey. It was an interesting project and I really dig the style but to get the after effects to really pop I'm going to need to shoot differently. Wrap the light more. Anyway, here's my Dave Hill wanna-be photo:

Patti & Holly

Shooting friends is SO much fun. There isn't any pressure to create a product. There aren't any expectations. I can be a little timid and awkward, so working with people who are already comfortable with me makes the shooting process such a breeze. It's such a creative experience when there isn't anything tangible on the line, like an album cover, or a magazine editorial, or money! Patti and Holly are young, trendy, funky girls. And yet, they have the most frumpy couch. I wanted to do a portrait of them inspired by their fabulous couch. Here they are. I call this series "Sunday's Best" (on a monday) ;)
